Browns No. 1 pick Myles Garrett in walking boot after foot injury

BEREA -- Cam Johnson and Tyrone Holmes got more time with the starters at right defensive end than Myles Garrett did Tuesday during the first practice of minicamp.

CLEVELAND — Myles Garrett’s left foot is in a walking boot, but the extent of his injury remains undisclosed.
Garrett, the No. 1 pick, didn’t appear at a youth football camp Friday at FirstEnergy Stadium with the Browns’ rookie class — safety Jabrill Peppers was excused — and the team didn’t provide an update.
Garrett, a defensive end from Texas A&M, went down Wednesday during minicamp while rushing the quarterback. He grabbed his foot, stopped practicing and eventually limped off the field. He was spotted at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport on Friday wearing a walking boot.

Fellow rookie defensive lineman Larry Ogunjobi has grown close to Garrett and hated to see him get hurt.
“It sucks, especially when he’s one of your good friends,” Ogunjobi said during a break from coaching the kids. “I’ve known Myles for just a short period of time, but we’ve connected and you know how good of a person he is because he’s humble and he’s hungry and really wants to be great.
“So you know it sucks, but it’s part of the game. It’s part of the process and you know he’s going to bounce back.”
Ogunjobi, a third-round pick, said Garrett has handled the setback well.
“You know, same mentality. One day at a time,” he said. “That’s the nature of the game. You kind of have to keep him in high spirits, you keep him going and you know he’s good.
“He’s still smiling, he’s still feeling good. It’s just part of life. You can’t really be up and down. You’ve got to be even keel and just take it one day at a time.”
Tight end David Njoku, the No. 29 pick, said it’s not Garrett’s nature to get too down.
“Myles is always a happy camper. So he’s just fine,” he said.
Garrett was limited during organized team activities and minicamp with what Cleveland.com reported as a sore foot. He missed time in his final season at Texas A&M with a high left ankle sprain.
When he’s been on the field, he’s impressed coaches and teammates.
“A guy who’s just ready to play,” Ogunjobi said. “You just see a guy who knows what he wants to do and how he wants to do it. He’s a guy you can learn a lot from.”
