Training Camp Log, Day 11

PEN PALS: Defensive tackle Trevon Coley, who was undrafted in 2016 and hasn’t played in a game, has been the biggest surprise in camp, working at times with the first team. He collects pens, with 30-40 in his car and a box of 200 at home.

“Pens are special,” he said. “You find that one nice pen and you can just never get rid of it. All different kind of pens. It’s weird but, yeah, I like to collect pens. As long as it’s smooth, it’s fine with me, I can use it.”

NEWS OF THE DAY: Receiver Corey Coleman won’t be charged, the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office announced. He had been under investigation in connection with an alleged felonious assault.

CAMPER OF THE DAY: Receiver Ricardo Louis. He might have made the play of camp on a deep post from Brock Osweiler. Louis used a late burst to separate from cornerback Channing Stribling, then dived to make the catch. He followed with a one-handed catch in the corner of the end zone on a fade from Osweiler.

“Ball was in the air, and he has to go dominate the ball,” coach Hue Jackson said. “He made some plays today.”

PLAY OF THE DAY: Tight end Randall Telfer came up gimpy early in practice but toughed it out and made a great catch down the seam on a fastball from Osweiler. Telfer jumped and grabbed the back of the ball as it was headed past him.

QUOTE OF THE DAY: “I was fortunate to have Harbaugh as my coach, so there’s nothing really I wasn’t prepared for.” — Rookie safety Jabrill Peppers, on his first training camp, referencing Michigan’s Jim Harbaugh.

WEDNESDAY’S SCHEDULE: No practice. The Browns host the Saints on Thursday night at 8 in the preseason opener.
