Notes: Browns to interview Andrew Berry, Monti Ossenfort on Friday for GM job

A third candidate for the Browns’ general manager job emerged Thursday.

Patriots director of college scouting Monti Ossenfort is scheduled to interview Friday, a league source confirmed to The Chronicle-Telegram.

Eagles vice president of football operations Andrew Berry will also interview Friday. Vikings vice president of player personnel/assistant general manager George Paton is expected to interview soon.

The Browns’ interest in Berry and Paton had previously been reported.

Ossenfort, who is reportedly in the final year of his contract with the Patriots, has been in the NFL for 18 seasons, including 15 with the Patriots. He climbed the ladder from personnel assistant to area scout, national scout and assistant director of college scouting. He’s been director of college scouting since 2014.

He played quarterback at Minnesota-Morris and got his master’s degree from Ohio University.

Berry, 32, was vice president of player personnel for the Browns in 2016-18 and has big fans in owners Dee and Jimmy Haslam.

Paton worked with new coach Kevin Stefanski with the Vikings for the last 13 years.

Berry and Stefanski got to know each other last year when Stefanski was a finalist in the Browns’ coaching search.

The Browns are expected to interview three to five candidates. The interview committee is Jimmy Haslam, Stefanski, executive vice president JW Johnson, chief strategy officer Paul DePodesta and vice president of football administration Chris Cooper.

Linebackers coach/run game coordinator Al Holcomb is leaving the Browns after one season to become run game coordinator for the Panthers, according to multiple reports.

Holcomb was Carolina’s linebackers coach from 2013-17. He was Cardinals defensive coordinator in 2018.

Holcomb spent the last seven years working with Steve Wilks, who was defensive coordinator for the Browns in 2019 and is in the running to return.

** Receivers coach Adam Henry met with the Cowboys on Wednesday about joining coach Mike McCarthy’s staff then met with Stefanski on Thursday.

Stefanski said he’d interview members of fired coach Freddie Kitchens’ staff as he decides on his assistant coaches.

Henry was hired in 2018 by coach Hue Jackson and stayed with Kitchens. Henry coached receivers Odell Beckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry at LSU and Beckham with the Giants.
