Fourth-round DT Tommy Togiai becomes fifth draft pick to sign contract

The Browns continue to sign their draft class.

Defensive tackle Tommy Togiai, a fourth-round pick out of Ohio State, signed his rookie contract Friday, the team announced.

Fourth-round offensive lineman James Hudson, fifth-round linebacker Tony Fields II, fifth-round safety Richard LeCounte III and sixth-round running back Demetric Felton previously signed.

Only first-round cornerback Greg Newsome II, second-round linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah and third-round receiver Anthony Schwartz remain unsigned.

Togiai, the No. 132 overall pick, started seven of 33 games for the Buckeyes. He totaled 49 tackles, three sacks and a forced fumble. He was a second-team All-Big Ten selection in 2020.

Togiai is expected to join a tackle rotation that includes Malik Jackson, Andrew Billings and Jordan Elliott.

“We look for penetrating guys up front. We think he can do that, which is disruptive in the run game,” director of player personnel Dan Saganey said during the draft. “When you kind of pair him with the rest of the guys we have in our defensive line group, we are always looking for quick, twitchy, explosive guys, and we think he fits that bill.”
