Greg Newsome II active, will play today vs. Ravens

BALTIMORE — Cornerback Greg Newsome II is active for today’s game against the Ravens after missing last week and being listed as questionable.

Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at M&T Bank Stadium.

Newsome’s groin was injured Oct. 29 against the Seahawks. He left the game, didn’t practice the following week and was inactive for the 27-0 win over the Cardinals last Sunday. He returned to practice Thursday and was limited Thursday and Friday.

Newsome is expected to start and move into the slot in nickel situations as usual. He, Denzel Ward and Martin Emerson Jr. will match up against Ravens receivers Odell Beckham Jr., Rashod Bateman, Zay Flowers and Nelson Agholor.

Running back/kick returner Pierre Strong Jr. (hamstring) is also active after being listed as questionable. He didn’t practice Wednesday and was limited the next two days.

The Browns ruled out right tackle Dawand Jones (knee/shoulder) and receivers Marquise Goodwin (concussion) and David Bell (knee) on Friday.

The Browns (5-3) have yet to announce who’ll start at the tackle spots, but James Hudson III is expected to replace Jones. With left tackle Jedrick Wills Jr. (knee) placed on injured reserve Tuesday, Geron Christian is expected to start in his spot. Christian was signed to the practice squad Oct. 31 and to the active roster Tuesday.

The other inactives are rookies and healthy: Dorian Thompson-Robinson — he’ll serve as the emergency third quarterback — defensive tackle Siaki Ika, defensive end Isaiah McGuire and safety Ronnie Hickman.

The Browns elevated cornerback A.J. Green III and receiver Austin Watkins Jr. from the practice squad Saturday.

For the Ravens, right tackle Morgan Moses (shoulder) is inactive. Patrick Mekari will start in his place.

Cornerback Marlon Humphrey (hamstring) and running back Keaton Mitchell (hamstring) are active after being listed as questionable.
