Browns sign 5 draft picks, announce signing of 7 undrafted rookies

The rookies will take the field for the first time for the Browns on Friday afternoon during rookie minicamp in Berea.

Before they practiced, many took care of some business.

The Browns announced Friday morning they had signed five members of their draft class: Michigan guard Zak Zinter, Louisville receiver Jamari Thrash, Mississippi State linebacker Nathaniel Watson, South Dakota cornerback Myles Harden and Cincinnati defensive tackle Jowon Briggs.


Ohio State defensive tackle Michael Hall Jr., the team’s first pick at No. 54 in the second round, was the only draft pick unsigned.

The rookie wage scale has made negotiations much simpler across the league.

The Browns also announced the signing of seven undrafted free agents.

Miami guard Javion Cohen (6-foot-4, 322 pounds) was at Alabama before transferring for the 2023 season. He was All-ACC honorable mention for the Hurricanes and started 36 total games.

Wyoming tight end Treyton Welch (6-4, 240) caught 77 passes for 874 yards and nine touchdowns in 49 games, including 31 catches for 308 yards and two TDs last season.

BYU running back Aidan Robbins (6-2, 237) also played at Louisville and UNLV, where he rushed for 1,011 yards and nine touchdowns in 2022. He started seven of eight games with BYU in 2023, totaling 518 scrimmage yards and a touchdown.

Arizona State safety Christopher Edmonds (6-2, 210) started his college career at Samford. He played in 24 games at Arizona State, totaling 121 tackles, three interceptions and eight passes defensed. All three interceptions came in 2023 and he had eight in 27 games at Samford.

South Dakota State cornerback Dyshawn Gates (5-10, 188) totaled 154 tackles, nine interceptions and 30 passes defensed from 2018-23 and was a captain last season.

Weber State linebacker Winston Reid (6-0, 225) was originally a walk-on in 2017. He totaled 281 tackles, 28.5 for loss, and seven sacks in 47 games. He was eighth in the nation with 10.7 tackles per game in 2023.

Rhode Island tackle Lorenzo Thompson (6-6, 305) made 37 straight starts to end his career and was a team captain last year.

Center Dawson Deaton, a seventh-round pick in 2022, was waived with a failed physical designation.
