Andrew Berry’s focus on the trenches continued Friday.
But the Browns general manager turned his attention to the defensive side.
The Browns and defensive tackle Kalia Davis agreed to a one-year deal, a league source confirmed to The Chronicle-Telegram. NFL Network was first to report the news.
He started all 17 games for the 49ers in 2025.
Berry’s priority at the start of free agency was the offensive line. He traded for right tackle Tytus Howard, signed guard Zion Johnson and center/guard Elgton Jenkins and re-signed guard Teven Jenkins.
Davis, 27, joins Mason Graham, Maliek Collins, Mike Hall Jr. and Adin Huntington in the defensive interior. Veteran Shelby Harris is a free agent, and the Browns didn’t tender restricted free agent Sam Kamara, making him an unrestricted free agent.
Collins and Davis were teammates in San Francisco in 2024 before Collins was cut after the season and signed a two-year deal with the Browns. He had a great 2025 until sustaining a season-ending quadriceps injury.

Davis (6-foot-2, 310 pounds) was a sixth-round pick of the 49ers in 2022 out of Central Florida. He didn’t play as a rookie after a torn anterior cruciate ligament during his last season in college.
He played three games in 2023 and 13 in 2024 before starting for the first time last season. For his career he has 1.5 sacks, 41 tackles, five for loss, an interception and four passes defensed.
