CRAPPY ENDING: New coach Todd Monken has been vocal about his hatred of sloppy football. He was seething Monday at the end of practice.
The first-team offense led by quarterback Shedeur Sanders had three straight false start penalties in an end-of-half two-minute drill, prompting Monken to wave the unit off the field before the period was over. Rookie left tackle Spencer Fano’s infraction was the final straw.
Deshaun Watson and the second team weren’t any better. An illegal formation was followed by a false start, and Monken ended practice right there, throwing his radio.
NEWS OF THE DAY: Despite rampant speculation that Watson had won the starting job, Monken said the quarterback competition will continue for at least two more weeks.

CAMPER OF THE DAY: On a day that featured the running backs, Dylan Sampson got the ball on handoffs, screens and short passes. The highlight was a catch on a play in which Sanders scrambled left, Sampson turned up the field and caught a pass down the left sideline.

PLAY OF THE DAY: Sanders sprinted right to escape the pocket and fired to receiver Jerry Jeudy on a comeback. Sanders was decisive and moved quickly to find a passing lane and deliver the ball.
